The reader
Jake hails from Liverpool but has travelled the world performing intimate readings at private parties. An esoteric researcher, palm reader and fortune teller, his work sits somewhere between old fashioned mysticism and something a lot stranger.
He co hosts The Tarot Readers Podcast, a weekly deep dive into the symbolism, myth and history behind every card in the deck, and writes for a private readership of performers through The Real Underground.
Every reading is ten minutes where somebody feels genuinely listened to. That is the whole trick.
What that means for your event is simple. Guests are not handed a gimmick. They get a real reading, delivered with warmth, a sense of theatre, and absolutely no pressure.
In the room
One to one
Events are loud. This is the opposite. A private sitting is one chair, one deck, one person, and nobody waiting behind them. No queue to feed, no clock on the wall, no performance for a room.
Most people arrive with a question they have not said out loud to anybody. Sometimes they say it in the first minute. Sometimes it takes forty. Either is fine, because the hour is theirs to use however they need to use it.
Nobody books a private reading because they want to be entertained. They book it because they want an hour where somebody is actually paying attention.
Jake reads slowly in these sittings. Cards are laid, talked through, turned back over and read again if something lands. Palms often come into it. So does a lot of listening. What is said in the room stays in the room, and nothing is ever repeated, filmed or written about afterwards.
Private sittings are limited each month, so dates go early.
Beyond the cards
Palm reading, tea leaves, runes, numerology and a fair amount of mind reading. Any of these can replace the cards, sit alongside them, or become the whole booking.
Most asked for after tarot
Palms need nothing at all. No table, no cloth, no deck, no setup. Jake takes a hand, turns it towards the light and reads it where the guest is already standing. That makes it the fastest thing he does and the easiest to drop into a room that is already moving.
It also does something the cards cannot. A reading that happens while somebody is holding your hand lands differently, and guests tend to remember it long after they have forgotten which card came up.
Most bookings end up as a mix anyway. Cards at the table, palms for the queue, and nobody waiting goes unread.

Students and unions
Universities book Jake every September, and most of them book him again the following one. A tarot table is the one thing at a welcome fair that students queue for without being asked to.
Freshers week has a problem that nothing on the timetable quite solves. A few hundred people who do not know each other, in a room, holding a tote bag. A tarot table fixes it faster than an icebreaker ever has. Students join the queue on their own, talk to whoever is stood next to them while they wait, and walk away with something to tell their flat about that night.
It works just as well at the events that are not about drinking. Alcohol free socials, daytime fairs, welcome brunches and library late nights all suit a reading table better than they suit a DJ. Readings are kept warm and light for this kind of booking. Nothing heavy, nothing that would land badly on somebody eighteen and a long way from home in their first week.

It depends on the date, the length of the booking, the travel involved and the format you choose. Send your details and you will get a clear, fixed price back with no add ons. Most event bookings are quoted by the hour with a minimum of two hours.
Liverpool and the whole of Merseyside as standard, plus the wider North West including the Wirral, Chester, Warrington, Manchester, Southport, Preston and North Wales. Jake travels further afield across the UK and internationally for the right booking, so ask regardless of where you are.
At a reading table, roughly six to eight people an hour with readings kept short so the queue keeps moving. Walkaround mystery reaches many more guests because it moves to them rather than the other way round. If you have a large guest list, two shorter formats across the night usually works better than one long table session.
For table readings, a small table, two chairs and a corner with a bit of atmosphere. Somewhere slightly away from the speakers helps. For walkaround, nothing at all. For the parlour show, a focal point and a microphone in larger rooms.

You sit down for an hour with nobody else in the room. There is no set script. Cards are laid and talked through, palms often come into it, and you steer it towards whatever you actually came to ask about. Nothing is recorded and no notes are kept. Sittings happen in a private room in Liverpool, at your home across the North West, or over video call.
Every year, and it is one of the busiest bookings in the calendar. Freshers fairs, welcome weeks, halls socials, alcohol free events, society nights and balls. Bookings are usually three to four hours with short readings so the queue keeps moving, and can be invoiced to the union or society with a purchase order. Insurance documents and a risk assessment go to your venue team on request.
Yes. Palm reading is the most requested after the cards and needs no setup at all, so it slots into any room. Beyond that there is cartomancy with an ordinary deck, tea leaf reading, rune casting, crystal and scrying, numerology, mind reading, and seance style parlour pieces for events that want something darker. Most bookings end up as a mix rather than one discipline, and any of them can be themed around a brand or the night itself.
Yes, and it is one of the most common private bookings. You pay for the sitting and the person receiving it picks their own date whenever they are ready. Email Jake and he will send something you can actually hand over on the day.
As early as you can. Saturdays, October and December book up months ahead. That said, it is always worth asking about short notice dates because cancellations happen.
All readings, discussions and esoteric performances are provided strictly for entertainment purposes. What guests take from them is their own. Most people find it a lot more meaningful than they expected walking in.
